Honorific mention on the competition project of XIII century archaeological site and garden of San Esteban (Murcia)

Archaeological site and garden of San Esteban - "JAIMA Y AGUA" 

With the objective of preserving the archaeological zone and remodeling the archaeological site of San Esteban, in Murcia, the General Directorate of Architecture of the Ministry of Public Works of Spain convened a project competition with a jury intervention last April.

Of the 35 proposals, Pacheco & Associates Architects have been selected among the 6 best studies and have been selected with the honorable mention with our project "JAIMA Y AGUA".

We have designed a jaima not only as an instrument that provides us with shade, but also performs additional functions such as claiming at strategic points of the urban framework, as a structure to hang polished metal panels and serve as a mirror to reflect the images of the site through wells of lights. It also serves as a support to install a network of sprayers or, those oriented to the south, which serve as a support for solar panels.

Water is never enough or enough shade in a garden in the city of Murcia. In our proposal we gave these two elements all the prominence.
